Dated Kitchen Gets a hausScape Makeover

Story by Debra Kronowitz | Photos by Michael Stavaridis

When hausScape was invited to create a new kitchen for a Fort Lauderdale tri-level townhouse, the company knew that the challenge was to redefine the use of space and integrate the already tight area. The kitchen was quintessential 1970s and needed a complete renovation.

The 20-by-40 kitchen was reworked to block circulation but allow for maneuverability; thus providing space without disturbing the natural traffic pattern. “We encroached into the existing dining room area with the bar to create a transition area,” said Luis Bebchik, president of hausScape.

The dramatic yet contemporary kitchen is both beautiful and practical. hausScape installed the handleless Binova
Continua W kitchen in cherrywood veneer. Since 1958, Binova has been making kitchens, exploring the potential of wood, keenly aware of the breakthroughs and opportunities afforded by progress, but also reverently respectful of timeless values like tradition and experience. What makes Binova unique is that the veneers are handmade and applied in the factory, allowing greater control of the wood patterns, whereas most companies purchase doors from standard manufacturers.

The Continua line is solid kitchen and light at the same time. Large boiseries with airy thin shelves and hidden lights emphasize the design. Made to measure and fitted with elegant worktops, sinks and handles, the result is stunning. This classically styled kitchen conceals appliances tucked into beautiful workstations and provides the exceptional comfort and unbounded conveniences in daily use.

The kitchen’s island and countertops are white Calacatta marble and the flooring is limestone. Miele appliances were installed and include a Sub-Zero refrigerator, dishwasher, an integrated cooking area with a typical Binova hood and convection oven. The 9-inch-deep stainless-steel sink features a Binova faucet and a stainless-steel backsplash with a white Calacatta shelf. The kitchen also boasts a coffee bar area built into the cabinetry, along with a flat screen TV that was integrated into the wall paneling.

For this kitchen, hausScape fazed and presented functionality of a wine cooler  to the dining room area. “Most celebrations of opening bubble will be in the dining room area,” explained Bebchik. Clean-lined surfaces with a high-end, contemporary look and feel has definitely brought this kitchen up to date.
