Grass’ ambiance invokes dinner in paradise with thatch tikki huts, VIP tables, cushy white banquettes, plush sofas and a full bar illuminated by a wall of apothecary jars brimming with colorful flora. Grass serves three different grilled fish [wild salmon, mahimahi and Yellow Jack] daily with a choice of five sauces: wasabi soy vinaigrette, arugula-yuzu coulis, wild mushroom-aged sherry vinaigrette, roasted corn truffle cream and miso cream. This unpretentious bistro offers indoor and outdoor dining venue serving budget-friendly food that’s mostly simple, and simply top-notch. Dishes, which depend on seasonal (and preferably regional) ingredients, precision preparation and solid creativity, come in varied sizes ranging from $5 snacks to extra-large plates like a juicy roasted Poulet Rouge chicken with shallot-mascar ponepolenta on a bed of arugula, raisins and pignolas.

At this self-described art café the menu items (sandwiches, house-baked pastries, a daily soup, plus several pastas and salads) are named after artists, and a few are, in their own humble way, works of art, most notably the Matisse pasta: butterfly-winged fiocchi pouches filled with pears and cheese in a four-cheese sauce.

The beacon of fine dining on Lincoln Road for 15 years is opening in the Design District. The menu combines the enticing Pan Asian flavors Chef Jonathon Eismann is known for with a new palette of contemporary American flavors. Menu highlights include sweet corn and leek soup with peeky toe crab dumplings, coriander and mustard oil; sheep’s milk gnudi with baby spinach, speck and brown butter; and prime grass fed NY strip loin with California artichokes, shiitakes, wasabi and a side of truffle rosemary house fries.

This independent, Mediterranean fast-ish food chain is low-priced and well-designed. The restaurant prides itself on offering a healthier alternative to fast-food. The menu offers a wealth of vegetarian and vegan options, salads, soups, wraps and a bakery.
