"G
oing green” is at the forefront of mainstream pop culture and is increasingly becoming more popular throughout the luxury products industry. However, high-end furniture manufacturers, it seems, have been slow to adapt. One exception is Florense.

The company has been “green” for the past 10 years. Totally committed to protecting the environment, Florense was the first Brazilian furniture company to acquire the International Quality Certificate ISO 9001 and the ISO14001, known as the International Certificate of Environment Management. The certifications mean that the company’s products and processes are ecologically correct.

“Early on we started to hear about the issue of rainforests not being preserved and became immensely concerned with the environment’s health and preservation. The company wanted to be pro-active, so we made the decision to take an eco-conscious path, and we teamed up with an environmental protection agency,” said Sany Marques, marketing director for Florense.

The “management rules” of such certification cover all environmental aspects, including considering the origin, the forms of extracting and producing the raw materials to the final destination of the industrial waste, starting with all manufacturing steps, logistics and material handling. This means that the products and processes are ecologically correct.

“You can’t be totally green, but you can position a company to be of the highest standards possible. We have no control over what we don’t manufacture. We do however, have total control of using recycled materials that are as close as possible to being natural within our factory,” said Camila Carneiro, manager of Florense’s Design District location.

To do its part, Florense is committed to partnering with outside manufacturers that are green-conscious. The company also uses natural resources that are renewable. For example, the wood veneers used for the furniture finish are natural European wood (EW) pre-composed wood veneers imported from Italy, originated from reforested areas. These pre-composed wood veneers are also produced by ecological correct processes, resulting with a unique veneer in design minus defects and a high resistance to light. The company is also using recycled paints and has installed a water system that continuously cleans the water supply.

Offering high-end kitchen, bath, closet and laundry room solutions, along with luxury bedding, sofas, dining rooms and accent pieces, Florense offers solutions in products and services for homes, offices and hotels. With
Florense Concept 24/7, the company represents a lifestyle in 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
