A Peek into the Creative Minds of Some of the World's Top Designers

Sexy, modern and exotic are words that can be used to describe the furniture created by Adriana Hoyos. This Latin American interior designer has tackled the craft of furniture design and demonstrated a remarkable talent to create pieces that are warm and expressive. Her use of natural elements and striking materials create textured designs that breathe life into living environments. "I think well applied, natural elements are sophisticated," she said.

And sophistication is an appropriate portrayal for both her designs and creative approach. Having traveled extensively, Hoyos utilizes her breadth of experience as a motivating influence.

"Traveling the world and appreciating diverse cultures has given me that spark of inspiration. Today, I still feed my imagination by analyzing different cultures," she explained.

Yet, this talented designer need not look further than her own culture to find inspiration. "I grew up surrounded by natural and exotic materials from the subtropical areas of Columbia," she said. "These experiences had a great influence in my professional career because I felt attracted to, and identified by, the applications of innate elements. The use of tagua, coconut shells for the inlays and ebony veneers in my latest collection are examples of the elements that give our furniture a distinctive and unique look."

Of course, her experience as an interior designer cannot be overlooked. She still designs stunning residences and commercial projects throughout Latin America and uses her interior design work as a means to stay current on the latest trends.

"Being an active interior designer makes me aware of the needs of my clients in this evolving world and gives me a great advantage as a furniture designer because I understand the piece of furniture as being a part of a whole room and not only the piece unto itself. The approach to scale, comfort, texture and art are all watched very carefully. When I design the furniture pieces, I always have in mind the usefulness and comfort of each piece, as well as the aesthetic of it."

Hoyos' talent and craftsmanship originated from her South American culture, developed through travels abroad and are now on display in the Miami Design District. The company's inviting showroom is expertly managed by dedicated professionals who understand that personal service is imperative. Maria Jose Puente oversees international operations.
